Philip F. Graceffa Sr., 88, of Rockford passed away Thursday, December 23, 2010 in his home after a long illness. He was born January 21, 1922 in Rockford, the son of Antonio and Maria (Cufaro) Graceffa.Philip was a member of the Armed Forces (Army) serving in Europe during WWII. He was employed by, and retired from the Illinois State Highway Department. A member of St. Anthony of Padua Church, Phil was an avid hunter and fisherman who shared his love of sportsmanship with his sons. He was also a natural born carpenter who built everything from toys for the kids to the house that was his family home for 46 years.Survivors include his three children, Anthony (Sue), Phil Jr. (Sue), and Maria (Orson) Oliver. Grandchildren, Trena, Sam, Tony, Vitina, Nicholas, Alexandra, and Philip. Great-grandchildren, Justin, Santina, Isabella, Vito and Giovanni. Daughter-in-law Cynthia Graceffa. Predeceased by his parents, devoted wife Mary, son Joseph, and sister Mary Rodriguez.The family would like to extend their gratitude to the doctors and nurses at Swedish American Hospital. Many thanks to the administration, nurses and CNA's at Northern Illinois Hospice and the many caregivers throughout the years, especially Bridgette.Mass of the Resurrection will be at 10am Wednesday, December 29, 2010 with a visitation at 9am at St.Anthony of Padua Church with the Franciscan Friars officiating. Burial at Calvary Catholic Cemetery. Visitation from 5pm until 7pm Tuesday December 28 at Fitzgerald Funeral Home, Mulford Chapel with rosary at 7pm.
