Ralph Joseph Fortman, 86
Rockford- Ralph Joseph Fortman, 86, passed away Thursday, June 11th, 2015 in his home while being cared for by the wonderful hospice employees and his wife Pearl whom he adored. Born October 5, 1928 in Wheaton, IL, the son of George & Kathryn (Schwickert) Fortman.
Ralph severed in the US Army during the Korean War. Married Pearl Woodford on December 21, 1974 in Rockford, IL.
He was a police officer and chief of police in Wheaton, IL for 22 years. He moved to Rockford, IL in 1972 and worked with his brother Paul at Banker's Life and Casualty. He was employed with Banker's Life and Casualty from 1972 until present. Ralph was a member of St. Edwards Catholic Church, the LLL Club, the Illinois Game and Pet Society. During his free time he enjoyed hunting and fishing, spending numerous hours with his garden, but most of all being with his beloved wife and family.
He is survived by his loving wife of 40 years Pearl, daughter Lynda (Kenn), and grandchildren, Melissia (Kevin), Anita, and Adam and great-grandchildren Aryanna, Alessandra, Dominick, Drew, Gavin, Julian, and Brayden, sister Pat (Werner), special nephews Greg Johnson and Brian Welz, and many nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by parents, brothers Paul and Stan.

Memorial Service will be held 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, June 16, 2015 at St. Edwards Catholic Church, 3004 11th Street, Rockford, IL, 61109. Visitation from 9:30 am until time of mass at the church.
