Ralph Leonard Higgs

Ralph Leonard Higgs, 79, of Rockford formerly of Wheeling passed away Wednesday, July 13, 2011 in his home. He was born February 27, 1932 in Washington DC, the son of Leonard and Violet Higgs. He married Megan Williams in Winnetka, IL on April 4, 1953. He was in the US Army serving during the Korean War. He worked for Cherry Electric Corporation as a line foreman for many years. He was employed by Underwriters Laboratories Northbrook, in the security department for 10 years, until his retirement in 1997. He was a member of Third Presbyterian Church in Rockford. He also was an avid wood worker, bowled on a league for many years, loved animals, enjoyed his CB radio, using the handle "Sloopy," and had a deep love for cars of all kinds, particularly his red Camaro. Survivors include his wife, Megan; children, Jeffrey (Pam) Higgs of Colorado, Jan (Mike) Ehas of Buffalo Grove, IL; sister, Phyllis (Edward) Thomas of Connecticut; seven nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents. Memorial service will be held at 11:00am on Friday, August 5, 2011 at Third Presbyterian Church, 1221 Custer Avenue, Rockford, IL 61103. Luncheon will immediately follow. Visitation from 10:00 a.m. until time of service, Friday at the church.
