Ray D. Cameron Sr.

August 29, 1923 — December 19, 2012

Rev. Ray Cameron Sr. 89 of Rockford and formerly of Galesburg died Wednesday, Dec. 19, 2012 at OSF St. Anthony Medical Center. Born August 29, 1923 in Rushville, IL the son of Otis D. and Eleanor (Guthrie) Cameron. Married his loving wife Margaret E. Babbitt on March 14, 1943 in Galesburg, IL.
Ray graduated from Galesburg High School in 1942 and then entered the US Navy serving in WWII. Upon returning from the war he became a design engineer for Admiral Corp. He felt called to the Christian ministry in 1957 and went back to school earning a B.A. form Eureka College in Eureka, IL and then a Masters of Divinity Degree from Christian Theological Seminary in Indianapolis, IN. He was ordained as minister of the Christian Church, Disciples of Christ in Danville, IL in 1967. Ray served as pastor at churches in Stanford, IL; Eastland, TX; Danville, IL; Bellville, IL and Central and Woodland
Christian Churches in Lexington, KY. Survivors include his wife of 70 years, Margaret Cameron of Rockford; daughters, Christine May of Rockford and Jodie (Tom) Linnan of Thermopolis, WY; sons, Mark (Kay) of Byron and Ray D. ( Susan) Jr. of Lexington, KY; 10 grandchildren; 15 great grandchildren; brother, Charles Cameron of Galesburg, IL and sister Sandra (David) Murphy of Princeville, IL. Preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Harriet Thorsen.

Memorial service Saturday, January 5, 2013 at First Christian Church, 301 N. Broad St. , Galesburg, IL at 11 a.m. with a visitation from 10 a.m. until time of service.
A memorial celebration of Rays life will be held at Morning Star Village, 1160 N. Mulford Rd. Rockford, IL on Friday, January 11, 2012 from 23 p.m..
