Raymond O. Flanders, 93 of Rockford, died on Friday, September 21, 2007 in his home. Born August 25, 1914 in Fife Lake, WI the son of Horace and Ruth (Frankish) Flanders. Graduate of South High School in Grand Rapids, MI, Dickenson College and received his Bachelors Degree from University of Iowa. Served in the United States Army during WWII.nbsp; Married his loving wife Betty Winterton on October 6, 1951 in Lee, IL. Raymond was co-owner of Tompkins Ice Cream Stores in Rockford for several years.nbsp; In the 1960s he became associated with his friend Alan Burns in the development of Greenview Estates in Belvidere,nbsp; Illinois. nbsp;Prior to retirement he worked in Real Estate. A member of Our Saviors Lutheran Church, YMCA retired mens club, Sons of Norway and was an avid singer who had belonged to a double male quartet in college.nbsp; Survivors include his wife Betty of Rockford; son, Gary (Janet) of Rockford; daughter, Debra (John) Dixon of Loves Park; grandchildren, Emily and Elizabeth Flanders of Rockford, Mark (Amy) Wilke of Floridanbsp; and Brad Wilke of Hawaii, and 1 step great-grandchild Breanna; brother-in-law, George W. Smith of Shabbona, ILnbsp;nbsp;and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, brother Floyd (Coleta) Flanders,nbsp; George (Sally) Flanders, and 1 brother and 1 sister in infancy and 1 sister Mildred (George) Ducey.nbsp;nbsp;nbsp;nbsp;nbsp;nbsp;nbsp;nbsp;
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, September 26, 2007 at 11:00 a.m. at Our Saviors Lutheran Church nbsp;upper sanctuary 3300 Rural St., Rockford, IL with Associate Pastor Reid Matthias officiating.nbsp; A luncheon will follow immediately after the funeral service.nbsp; Visitation will be held on September 26, 2007 in the church from 10:00-10:45 a.m. Interment will be in First Lutheran Cemetery, Lee, IL at 2:30 p.m.. In lieu of flowers please make donations to a charity of ones choice. Fitzgerald Funeral Home, Mulford chapel assisted the family with arrangements.
