Rex Allen Thompson

Rex Allen Thompson, 49, of Roscoe, died at 12:31 PM, Friday, December 21, 2007, in OSF St. Anthony Medical Center following a courageous battle with cancer. Born October 19, 1958,in Newport, RI, the son of Ralph A. and Alice I. (James) Thompson. Worked as a heavy equipment operator with Midwest Operating Engineer Local No.150. Member of Alpine Lutheran Church. Rex owned and raced for Tee Rex 395 Motor Sports and was a member of IHRA and NHRA where he raced in the 2-wheel speed series. Rex also raced in the ILOWA bike series at Byron Dragway, Great Lakes Dragaway, Cordova, Knoll-Gas in Eddyville, IA, Cedar Falls and Midstate Dragway. Survived by his daughter, Kara Thompson , mother, Alice Thompson-Mills, brothers, Stacey and Scott(Kim) Thompson all of Rockford sisters, Dawn(Rennie)Elvin of Rockford, Kathryn (Jim)Teasdale of Cable, WI, Stephanie(Terry)Bahling of Roscoe and brother, Ralph (Kandy) Thompson, J. of Roscoe. nieces and nephews, Kimberly, Cassie, Steven, Ryan, Christy, Lauren, Kalie and Breonna; very special friend Mark Peters of Ashton; and his extended family from the race tracks around the Midwest as well as his friends from The Old Still. Predeceased by his father, Ralph, Sr.; foster father, Doug Kalber; brother, Loren Jr. and his grandparents. Rex would like his daughter, Kara, to always remember how much he loves her and wishes Karas mother, Sheryl, peace and happiness. Rexs family would like to thank the staff at OSF Saint Anthony Medical Center for their dedicated care and understanding of Rexs wishes. Memorial services will be held at 7PM, Friday, December 28, 2007, at Fitzgerald Funeral Home and Crematory, Rockton Chapel, 3910 N. Rockton Av. Rockford, IL 61103 with Rev. Dr. Richard J. Meier officiating. Visitation from 5PM until 7PM on Friday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the family.
