Robert "Bob" Dennis Basick

March 29, 1940 — February 7, 2023

Robert "Bob" Dennis Basick, 82, passed away on Tuesday, February 7, 2023, at Wesley Willows Health Care Center in Rockford, Illinois. He was born March 29,1940, in Chicago, the son of Michael and Florence (Tadevic) Basick. Bob was an Army veteran serving from 1963 to 1965, fulfilling reserve obligation in 1969. Bob met his wife, Donna Doljanin, the love of his wife, at his birthday party and the rest is history. They married on November 20,1971, and remained soul mates for 52 years. They were blessed by the birth of their son, Brian, in April, 1973.

Bob was a bookbinder before starting his own business in home renovations until the recession in the early 80’s forced him back to his previous career. He was then employed by McCain Manufacturing in Chicago as a service representative, traveling extensively throughout the states and Europe. Through the years Bob renovated and Donna decorated their homes in Lemont, Lake Thunderbird, and Lake Summerset. Bob enjoyed creating stained glass artifacts, going to plays, playing various card and board games, and simply being with family and the wonderful friends he and Donna made through their life journey. He was a lifelong Bears fan and became an Alabama "Roll Tide" fan after Brian graduated from the University of Alabama. During retirement he and Donna fulfilled their bucket lists of travel destinations and wintered in Mission Texas until seven years ago due to health issues. Bob was a loving husband and father, a proud patriot, devout Catholic, genuine to the core and loved by family and friends. Bob's suffering has now ended and he is wrapped in the arms of his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

Bob is survived by his heart broken wife, Donna and son, Brian; his sisters, Frances Dust of Orland Park and Cheri and (Bill) Steffgen of Homer Glen; his brother-in-law, Matthew (Janet) Doljanin of Thunderbird Lake;his sister-in-law, Joyce Austin of Alsip; numerous but greatly beloved nieces and nephews. Predeceased by his parents, his brothers-in-law, Norman Dust, Wayne Tichelar, and James Doljanin; his sisters-in-law, Shirley Tichelar, June Crisman, and Mae Doljanin.
