Robert Emmett Cahill, 82, Rockford, passed away on Friday, December 3, 2010 of congestive heart failure at Provena St. Ann Center surrounded by his family. Born June 27, 1928 in Chicago, the son of Robert E. and Edna (Davis) Cahill. Graduated from Marmion Military Academy in Aurora, IL. attended the University of Michigan and graduated from DePaul University. He served in the U.S. Army Reserves and was recalled during the Korean War. Married Ann (Lorden) Cahill in 1968. Prior to retirement, he was a manufacturer's representative for scientific supplies. Bob was an avid and long suffering Chicago Cubs fan. He and his wife enjoyed annual trips to Mesa, AZ for spring training and other trips around the country. Former member of the Moose Club, Elks Club and Knights of Columbus. Bob enjoyed bowling and playing golf. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends. He is survived by his wife, Ann; son Ted (Karen) Cahill of Pleasant Hill, CA; daughter, Margaret (Douglas) Bottorff and his three grandchildren, Frances, Henry and Emmett Bottorff of Iowa City, IA; brother, Lawrence Cahill of Olympia, WA; sisters-in-law, Mary (Harry) Milani; Kate (Jean-Louis) Schrago; brothers-in-law, Tom (Nancy) Lorden and Tim Lorden; sister-in-law, Florence Cahill and many nieces and nephews. Predeceased by parents and brother, Donald Cahill. Our family would like to thank the staff at Swedish American Heart Hospital and Provena St. Anne Center for their care and compassion. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m., Tuesday, December 7, 2010 in St. James Catholic Church with Rev. Dean Russell officiating. Burial in Calvary Cemetery. Memorial visitation from 6-8 p.m. Monday in Fitzgerald Funeral Home & Crematory, Mulford Chapel, 1860 S. Mulford Rd. with a Prayer Service at 7:30 p.m. Visitation also from 10 a.m. until 10:45 a.m. in the church on Tuesday. Memorials may be made to St. James Catholic Church or Provena St. Anne Center.
