Robert F. Papich

Robert F. "?Pappy" Papich Loving Grandpa Bob Robert F. "?Pappy" Papich, 66, of Rockford, passed away on Tuesday, August 5, 2008 in his home. Born on November 8, 1941 in Rockford; the son of Lawrence and Frances (Zambrowski) Papich. Pappy was a long time basketball coach at St. Edwards Catholic School where a scholarship is still given in his name. He was well known in the sports world and for his dedication to softball and soccer in the Rockford area and around the country. Pappys career with the Rockford Park District spanned 38 years and included the formation and managing of Sports Core I from its inception. He was the current President of Sports Operators and Directors (SODA) and a director of USSSA having been inducted into the USSSA Hall of Fame in 2002. After his retirement he founded A&P Sports Complex Consulting Agency. Survivors include his children, Jeffrey Papich, Jennifer Papich-Xydakis, Nicole Dahl-Dunlap, Jarrod (Kristen) Dahl, Cheray (Jeffrey) Maville, Nadine (Kenneth) Bucalo and Derek Papich; grandchildren, Nikos Xydakis, Morgan Dunlap, Christian, Carson and Keegan Dahl , Kori and Kiara Maville; mother, Frances Papich; childrens mothers, Anita Papich and Judy LaLoggia. Funeral Mass will be held at 11:00am Tuesday, August 12, 2008 at St. Edwards Catholic Church, 3004 11th Street, with Father Michael G. Black officiating. Burial in Calvary Catholic Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 4 to 7:30pm with a time of sharing at 7:30pm on Monday, August 11, 2008 at Fitzgerald Funeral Home & Crematory, Mulford Chapel, 1860 S. Mulford Rd. Rockford, IL 61108 and also from 10:30 am until time of service at the church on Tuesday. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the family.
