Robert Henry Crowell

Robert Henry Crowell, 74, Rockford, died at 8:13 p.m. Monday, November 30, 2009 in OSF St. Anthony Medical Center.  Born May 31, 1935 in Menomonee, MI, son of Theodore and Viola  Peshek Crowell.  Graduated from West High School where he was on the swimming and diving teams.   Married Barbara J. Phillips in Rockford on August 8, 1964.  He was an electrician in the family business of Crowell Electric until 1985 and then continued his career with the Byron Nuclear Plant, retiring in 2002.  Scuba diving was an important part of Bobs life.  He helped start Rockford Divers Association, taught scuba diving at the Center for Sight and Hearing Impaired and volunteered for the American Red Cross.  He was also a former  Jaycee.  Bob loved to travel, especially to warm places.  He was a well liked man and a good and loyal friend who was always willing to help everyone. Survivors include his wife, Barbara; step-sons, Shawn (Brenda) Phillips and Rory (Judy)  Phillips; sisters, Joan Cogswell, Judy Cox, Bonnie Wright, Pam (Ed) Hayes, Mary (Larry) Franks and numerous nieces and nephews.  Predeceased by his parents; brother, Ted; sister Gwen and brothers-in-law,  Bob Cox and Dick Cogswell.  Bobs family would like to thank all of the people who lovingly helped care for him during his illness, especially the staff on 4-West at OSF St. Anthony Medical Center and the Cancer Center. To honor Bobs wishes, there will be no services held.  A memorial may be made to his family and condolences and memories can be shared at www.fitzgeraldfh.com.  The family was assisted by Fitzgerald Funeral Home & Crematory, Mulford Chapel, 1860 S. Mulford Rd.
