Roger Karl Lapp

Roger Karl Lapp, 80, of Byron, crossed the finish line, on August 11, 2015 with his loving family at his side. He was born on June 7, 1935, in Rockford; to parents, Roland and Elta (Seigmeier) Lapp. Roger married his loving wife, Ellen Reedy in Rockford, at Fischer Chapel, on May 5, 1984. He worked as a Machine Tool Operator for Barber Colemen/ Reed Chatwood for 45 years, retiring in 1999. Roger loved drag racing, NASCAR, traveling to the races with his sons, and vacationing with his wife Ellen, when they could get away. Roger and Ellen both had Cutlass’ that they raced and sometimes raced against each other. Roger was loved dearly and will be deeply missed.
He is survived by his wife, Ellen Lapp; sons, Randy (Rhonda Banks) Lapp, and Robert (Teresa) Lapp; grandchildren, Jennifer Smith, Ryan Lapp, Matthew Lapp, and Danielle Lapp. Roger is predeceased by his parents, his son, Russell, in 1984; sister, Donna Boester; half sister, Hazel Nelson. Roger’s family would like to send a heartfelt thank you to Caye and Smitty Smith, Jess Bosteder, and to the caring staff of the Serenity Hospice and Home in Oregon, IL.
A celebration of Roger’s life will be 11:00am, Saturday, August 22, 2015, at Fitzgerald Funeral Home, 3910 N. Rockton Ave., Rockford, IL, 61103; with Pastor Dean Parker officiating. Visitation will be From 9am until time of service Saturday in the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Lapp Family, or to Serenity Hospice and Home, 1658 S.
