ROSETTA (JORDAN) MCINTOSH , 95

ROCKFORD - Rosetta (Jordan) McIntosh, 95, passed away on Monday, March 30, 2015 in the Health Center of Wesley Willows. She was born on the family farm near West Chicago, IL, on October 25, 1919, the third child of John and Florence (Mack) Jordan. She grew up and attended the public schools in West Chicago.

In 1941, Rosetta graduated from Black Hills Teachers College, now known as Black Hills State University, in Spearfish, South Dakota with a Bachelor’s Degree in Education. Later she received her Master’s Degree in Counseling from the University of Illinois.

Rosetta married Howard Curtis (Curty) McIntosh in 1944, while Curty was on leave from the Army Air Corp Air Transport Command.

Rosetta taught school for 37 years, primarily at Whig Hill School and Lincoln Middle School in Rockford. She retired in 1981.

In 1979, Rosetta was the Teacher of the Year in Illinois, under the “Those Who Excel” program.

Rosetta was a member of Third Presbyterian Church for over 50 years, having served as Elder and Clerk of Session, Corporation Chairperson, Moderator of Women’s Association and was a library volunteer for 29 years. Rosetta was a 74 year member of the P.E.O. Sisterhood, having served as president of two different chapters. She was also active in Alpha Delta Kappa, international teaching sorority, serving on both the local and state boards. She was active at Wesley Willows and volunteered her time on various boards and committees.

Rosetta loved to travel, play cards (especially bridge) and entertain. She was a good listener, a good confidante, and a good homemaker.

Rosetta was predeceased by Curty, her loving husband of 63 years, her parents, one sister Lovina Riseling, and two brothers, George and James Jordan. Survivors include sons David of Stevens Point, WI and Phillip (Connie) of Pecatonica; daughter Mary (Joe) Gsell of Naperville; grandson Matthew Gsell of Los Angeles, CA; granddaughter Elizabeth (Erik) Farnham of Missoula, MT; and great grandsons Everett Curtis and Ernest Henry Farnham of Missoula. She is also survived by several loving nieces and nephews including one special niece Bea Salis of Arlington Heights.

A memorial service celebrating Rosetta’s life will be conducted by Rev Stephen Bowie at 11:00 a.m., Monday, April 6, in Third Presbyterian Church, 1221 Custer Avenue, Rockford, with visitation from 10:00 to the time of service.
