Russell C. Anderson

Russell C. Anderson, 88 of Rockford, died Saturday, November 3, 2012 at Rockford Memorial Hospital. Born October 11, 1924 in Rockford the son of Carl G. and Martha (Behnke) Anderson. A veteran of the United States Army serving as Sergeant in the 75th Division Company C. Squad in WWII. He was wounded in the Battle of the Bulge and received the Purple Heart and Ribbon in the European Campaign. Graduated from Northwestern with a Bachelors and Masters degree. Married his loving wife Rita Ann Havlik in Rockford on July 6, 1968. While at Northwestern Russ played with the Chicago Symphony, was a trumpet soloist at the Lutheran Church, a music teacher at Oregon High School for 4 years, East and Auburn High School until 1960, Wilson Middle School and Back to East/Lincoln. He was the supervisor of Music for district 205 until his retirement in 1984. After retiring he started his own business, Anderson Pool Service. A faithful member of Holy Family Catholic Church where he served as a Eucharistic Minister and volunteered at the perpetual adoration chapel. He was also a member of the REA and the ISEA. The family wishes to thank the following people for all of their wonderful care and support they have shown Russ and Rita; Julie Oddo, The Staff at RMH, Van Matre Rehabilitation Center, Rosewood Nursing Home and the parishioners and staff at Holy Family Catholic Church. Survivors include his loving wife, Rita; children, Anne (Terry) Webb, Russell (Julie) Anderson, Kris (Erika) Anderson and Katherine (Mark) Taber; grandchildren, Christopher (Joan) Webb, Courtney (Adam) DeRemer and Maeve Anderson; great grandchildren, Jackson and Lauren Webb and Brynn DeRemer; brother Carl E. Anderson and Brotherinlaw, David Havlik. Preceded in death by his parents, daughter, Mary; first wife, Eloise and sisterinlaws, Leta Anderson and Judy Havlik. Funeral Mass Wednesday, November 7, 2012 Holy Family Catholic Church . 4401 Highcrest Rd. , at 11 a.m. Entombment in Calvary Catholic Cemetery, Winnebago, IL. Visitation Tuesday, November 6 at Fitzgerald Funeral Home, Mulford Chapel 1860 S. Mulford Rd. from 5 7 p.m. with a rosary service to be recited at 7 p.m. Visitation continues on Wednesday at church from 10 a.m. until service time at 11 a.m. Memorials in his name for Masss to be said at Holy Family Catholic Church.
