Russell J. Pomaro

Russell J. Pomaro, 81, of Rockford, IL passed away Saturday, April 30, 2022. He was born September 21, 1940 in Chicago, IL to Frances (Calandra) and Sam Pomaro. Russell grew up in a large extended Italian family. He attended St. Mel High School, graduating in 1959 and proudly served his country in the United States Army. He met the love of his life, Meribeth (Beth) Williams on a blind date and they married about a year later on February 5, 1966. Russ worked as a union electrician for Pinner Electric for nearly 30 years. After retiring, Russ and Beth moved to the Galena Territory, where they spent 20 happy years and had many dear friends. Never without a project or something to fix, Russ designed and constructed their house in Galena, doing much of the work himself. Russ had many hobbies such as boating, fishing, prairie conservation, model trains, and there was not a Western movie or show made that he had not seen many times. He especially loved woodworking and lovingly crafted custom furniture for his family in his workshop. Russ was generous and kind, with a ready smile and a laugh, often described as one of the nicest people you could meet. Most of all, Russ loved the time he spent with his family. He will forever be in the hearts of those who knew and loved him.

Russell is survived by his children, Randy (Sarah), Greg (Tracy), and Amy (Chai); grandchildren, Maddie, Nick, Rex, and Fritz, and granddog Frankie; brother, Nick and sister, Paula. Russell is predeceased by his wife, Beth.

Visitation will be held Saturday, May 7, 2022 from 10:00 – 12:00 p.m. at Fitzgerald Funeral Home & Crematory, Mulford Chapel, 1860 S. Mulford Rd.
