Ruth C. Fensterman

""The Shoe Lady"" Ruth C. Fensterman, 85, of Rockford passed away Saturday, June 27, 2009 in River Bluff Nursing Home. Born January 7, 1924 in Scales Mound, IL, the daughter of Herman C. and Carrie (Hammer) Koester. Ruth attended Scales Mound Country Schools, and later married Laurence W. Fensterman on February 25, 1942 in Galena, IL. They moved to Rockford in 1953. After 35 years of selling shoes, Ruth retired in 1999. She was known as ""The Shoe Lady"" . She also loved embroidery work and making full size quilts. Ruth is survived by her children Donald (Marilyn) Fensterman, Karen (Kenneth) Lang and Bruce Fensterman. Grandchildren Loren Fensterman, Lance (Mindy) Fensterman, Lisa Fensterman, Kathy (Jeff) Smith, Dustin Fensterman, great-grandchildren Taylen and Caden, numerous nieces, nephews and special friend Nan Geark. She is predeceased by her parents, husband Laurence, brothers Marvin and Oliver, sisters Florence Bauer, Aravilla Hammer, Frances Wilson and Marcella Bell. The family would like to extend a special thanks to the staff at River Bluff Nursing Home for the care they provided to Ruth and her family. Funeral Service will be Wednesday, July 1, 2009 at 11:00 a.m. in the Third Presbyterian Church, 1221 Custer St., Rockford, IL 61103 with the Rev. Murray Hanson officiating. Visitation will be from 9:00 a.m. until time of service in the church. Interment will be in Scales Mound Township Cemeetry, Scales Mound, IL.
