Sally Mable Burris, 83, of Rockford, IL, died Sunday August 22, 2021.
Born February 17, 1938, she was the daughter of Roy M. and Mable E. Doyle. She was one of ten children born to her parents. Her siblings include Barb, Dorris, Roy “Junior”, Judith “Cookie”, James, Carol, Jerry, Linda and Jack “Jackie”.
She worked at Auburn High School in the cafeteria during the 1960’s and early 1970’s while raising her five daughters - Debra Fish of Rockford, IL, Melody (Mike) Gitchel of Rockford, IL, Lesley Burris of Rockford, IL, Darla (John) Vicencio of Williamstown, NJ and Bonnie (Darrell) Smith of Tucson, AZ. After that she worked at Sparkle Cleaners from 1976-2010 when she retired. She was a long time member of Berean Baptist Church.
Sally was known affectionately as “Mrs. B” by many who knew her. She always had an open heart for her family and friends. She devoted her life to loving her family well. She enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren whenever she could. She lived her life with a sweet spirit and gentle strength that inspired us all she leaves a legacy of love, laughter, grace, forgiveness and hope.
Aside from her family, she enjoyed playing cards with friends, good food, dancing and getting lost in a great book.
She is survived by her five daughters, two brothers - James Doyle of Decorah, IA and Jerry (Anita) Doyle of Milton, WI, eleven grandchildren - Ryan (Kristin) Fish, Jordan (Rachel) Fish, Kristen (Nathan) Milne, Jamie (Jennifer) Gitchel, Rickey (Bobbi) Brown, John Terrell, Christy (Tom Koustrup) May, Samantha (Jeramy) Walls, Tracie (James) Darr, Natasha Burris and Ashley Smith, thirty one great grandchildren - Natalie Fish and Nolan Fish, Josiah Fish and Hannah Fish, Lucas Milne, Parker Hedges and Riley Hedges, Madison Gitchel, LaRyan Gitchel, Ceteva Brown, Anisia Brown, Nani Brown and Kama Pinkston, Amber May, Devin May, Isaac May and Owen May, Austin Walls, Brayden Walls, Bentley Walls and Bryson Walls, Justin Burris and Jessa Burris, Austin Burris, Michael Darr, Jonathan Darr, Leia Burris-Johnson, Paloma Burris-Johnson, Emmagine Smith, Kaden Terrell and Andrew Smith.
She was predeceased by her sisters, two brothers, her grandson - Scott Burris, her great granddaughter - Lauren May and her special friends - Nancy Pohl, Carol Kennedy and Rachel Brooks.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Saturday, August 28, 2021, at Fitzgerald Funeral Home and Crematory, Riverside Chapel, 3910 N. Rockton Av. Rockford with Reverend Eric Hafeli officiating. Burial at Willwood Burial Park. Visitation will be from 10:00 A.M. until time of service at the funeral home.
