Salvatore J. Sam Torchia, 55, Rockford, died Wednesday, February 13, 2013 in Rockford Memorial Hospital.
Born March 12, 1957, son of Henry and Theresa Pumilia Torchia.
Graduated from Boylan High School in 1975.
Married Mary Linda Cerniglia in Rockford on April 10, 1980.
He was a member of St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church.
He was also a member of Healthy Solutions and a dear friend of Bill W. Sam began his career in sales with Forest City Packers and now treasured the opportunity to work for the Battaglia brothers of Battaglia Foods. nbsp;He also presently represented the Michele Baking Corp
Sams customers became like family through the years and he was always a supportive friend.
He was a kind, giving and spiritual person who shared what he had with others.
Sam appreciated life and just wanted to make people happy and be loved.
His family would like to thank the staff at Rockford Memorial Hospital for the loving and compassionate care that was given to him.


Survivors include his wife, Mary Linda; son Ryan (Ashley) Torchia; 2 grandchildren that he was a doting grandfather to, Jackson and Isabella Torchia; mother, Theresa Torchia; siblings, Rosalie (Virgil) Toepfer, Mary Ann (Mike) Cotti and Henry (Lisa) Torchia; special cousin, Albert Armato; he was a proud and supportive uncle to Tony, Butchie, Andrea, Amie, Teresa, Michael, Joe, Steven, Andrew, Alex, Kristin, Michael, Jack and Freddy; fatherinlaw, Jack Cerniglia; sistersinlaw and brothersinlaw, Rosanna (Fred) DeBoe, Sam Cerniglia, Jacki CernigliaSmith; his AA
sponsor, Christian A.; his special group of friends, Bobbie, Joey, Tim and Paul and his special puppies, Lexi and Max.
Predeceased by his father, Henry; motherinlaw,
Marion Cerniglia; sisterinlaw, Susan Cerniglia and nephew, Tim Ketterhagen.


Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 a.m. Monday, February 18, 2013 in St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church with the Franciscan Friars officiating.
Burial in Calvary Cemetery.
Visitation from 47 p.m. Sunday in Fitzgerald Funeral Home amp; Crematory, Mulford Chapel, 1860 S. Mulford Rd. with a Rosary recited at 7:00 p.m. Visitation also from 99:45 a.m. at the church on Monday. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the family.
