Sandra A. "Sandy" Zumwalt

Sandra A. “Sandy” Zumwalt, 57, passed away Thursday, November 20, 2014, in her home surrounded by her loving family. She was born November 20, 1957, in Statesville, North Carolina, the daughter of William Edward and Effie Kathryn (Highsmith) Hamrick, Sr. She was a cum laude graduate of Bradley University. Sandy married Richard Zumwalt on November 6, 2009, in Rockford. During her career she was vice president for Healthcare with Widmer Interiors, co-owner of Bronson Oil and Bronson Properties, owner of SAZresources and most recently, national sales manager for Hush Curtain. Sandy was a licensed pilot, a passionate chef and gifted designer. She had a passion for entertaining friends and family and was ready to travel anytime, anywhere. Her ever present sense of style, easy laugh and enduring grace endeared her to all who had the pleasure of knowing her. Her amazing strength and spirit endured throughout her nearly four year battle with cancer.
Survived by her husband, Rick; and her brothers, William Edward Hamrick, Jr. and Eric Charles Hamrick. She was predeceased by her parents and her former husband, William Bronson.
In honor of Sandy’s wishes a Celebration of Life open house will be held on Saturday, December 6, 2014, at Giovonni’s from 11:00 A.M., until 2 P.M. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to OSF Saint Anthony Foundation, for the Center for Cancer Care expansion or to OSF Hospice. Fitzgerald Funeral Home and Crematory assisted the family.
