Sharon Darnell

Sharon A. “Sheri” Darnell, 59, Rockford, died Wednesday, March 13, 2013 in her home. Born February 15, 1954 in Rockford, daughter of LaVerne and Elsie Keene Mattson. Graduated from West High School in 1972. Married William T. Darnell on February 12, 1977. He died June 11, 1998. Until 2010 she was employed at Bergner’s Warehouse for over 20 years. She had also been employed in concessions at Sportscore for several years. Sheri was completely devoted to family times. Both she and Bill were always there for their sons, helping coach with sports and supporting all of their activities. She also enjoyed trips to the casinos. Survivors include her sons, Christopher W. (Nicki) Darnell and Nicholas A. Darnell; granddaughter, Paige Newton; father, LaVerne Mattson; sister, Linda Mattson; brothers and sisters-in law, Carol (Jerry) Davies, Patricia (John) Albrecht, Kathy (Shawn) Way; aunt, Eleanor Stemwedel and numerous nieces and nephews. Also predeceased by her mother, Elsie Mattson. Funeral service at 1:00 p.m. Tuesday, March 19, 2013 in Fitzgerald Funeral Home & Crematory, Riverside Chapel, 3910 N. Rockton Ave. with Rev. William R. Wentink officiating. Burial in Calvary Cemetery. Visitation from 11:00 a.m. until time of the service. Memorials may be made to the family.
