Sharon L. Evans

Sharon L. Evans, 77, passed away at River Bluff Nursing Home on May 31, 2022. Born in Forest Park, Illinois on April 13, 1945, daughter to Howard and Edna (Arnold) Forney. As a teenager Sharon had a bout with Polio and really learned not to take life for granted. She went on to marry the love of her life, Gerald, in San Diego, California on June 12, 1965, and they shared 51 wonderful years of marriage before he passed in May of 2017. In that time Sharon and Gerald created a loving and welcoming home to their five children, then grandchildren, and always friends. After their children were raised Sharon and Jerry loved to travel around in their RV, and when they were home, they also enjoyed playing bingo and Sharon could not pass a good estate sale without taking a look. In July of 2011 Sharon had a stroke and that may have given her some physical disabilities, but that never stopped her from showing her love to her friends and family. She will be greatly missed, but a fond memory anyone who knows Sharon can recall is her signature gesture of ‘I love you’ in sign language.

She will be missed by those who loved her most; her children Dawn (Ted) Roethle, Gerald Evans Jr., James (Lisa) Evans, and Cindy (Craig) Smith; her grandchildren Justin, Skylar, Sierra, Noah, Alex, Zachary, Andrew, Nathan, Carter, Victoria, and Mackenzie; her great grandson Tristan; beloved sister Sue Carey, numerous very special nieces and nephews, and special mention to friend Charlotte Douglas. She is predeceased by her husband, Gerald; her daughter Nancy; sisters Maryann, Ruth, and Joan.

A visitation will take place on Saturday, June 11, 2022 from 10:30 a.m. until the time of service at 11:30 a.m. at Fitzgerald Funeral Home & Crematory, 1860 S. Mulford Road, Rockford, Illinois 61108. Burial to follow at Arlington Memorial Park in Rockford, Illinois. The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to River Bluff Nursing Home for the kindness and compassion they showed to Sharon the entire time she stayed there.
