Sherry Lynn Mcdonald

Sherry Lynn McDonald (74), of Rockford, IL, passed away peacefully on Friday, October 27, in the comfort of her own home.

Sherry Lynn was born on December 18, 1948, to Chester A. and Marilyn M. (Biggins) Lender in Rockford, IL and then became a childhood resident in Ridott, IL.

Sherry Lynn graduated from Freeport High School and went on to attend Highland Community College. She then went on to attend Rockford Memorial Hospital School of Nursing to pursue her passion of nursing. She graduated in 1971 as a Registered Nurse (RN). Sherry loved children and worked several years as a pediatric nurse at Rockford Memorial Hospital. It was there that she met her husband, Bryan A. McDonald, MD. She married Bryan on May 21, 1977, and they spent 46 wonderful years doing life together. After taking some time off work to be home with her children, Sherry returned to her role as a RN for Rockford Health Physicians. She retired in 2017, with her husband, after dedicating 46 years to the nursing profession. She then went on to do what she loved the most, which was caring for her grandchildren.

Sherry Lynn’s greatest joy was her family. They were the most important focus of her life. She was always there for her family and never gave up on any of them. To her, family was not just blood, and she passionately took on the mother figure to many. She was a role model, being one of the most selfless, caring, and generous individuals. She had an amazing sense of humor and always brought fun and joy wherever she went. She was the epitome of an amazing grandmother, affectionally known by her grandchildren as "Greys."

Sherry Lynn is survived by her husband, Bryan; three children, Nicholas (Cheryl) McDonald, Nathaniel McDonald, and Erin (Christopher) Wojewodzki; honorary daughter, Loree (Greg) Leathers-Allen; four grandchildren, Gavin and Emilyn McDonald and Harper and Norah Wojewodzki; brother Mark (Cindy) Lender; sister Marlyse (Steve) Folk; and numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews. She is predeceased by her parents.

A service to honor and remember Sherry Lynn will be held at 1:00 PM on Wednesday, November 1, 2023 at Fitzgerald Funeral Home & Crematory, Riverside Chapel, 3910 N. Rockton Ave., preceded by a visitation beginning at 11 AM. A private family burial will be at Greenwood Cemetery. In Lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to American Cancer Society.
