Stephen L. Mcvay

Stephen L. McVay, 61, Rockford, passed peacefully into the waiting arms of Jesus on Monday evening, June 16, 2014. He left on the terms he wanted, with his immediate family surrounding him with love. He fought courageously against cancer and defied the odds that were medically given to him. He has no more pain and is rejoicing with his dad in heaven. He was born on September 28, 1952 in Rockford, son of Ed and Vana R. (Porter) McVay Mitchell. Married Gale Edelen on August 17, 1974. Graduated from East High School in 1970, attended Rock Valley College and graduated from Worsham College of Mortuary Science. He was a funeral director and embalmer with Fitzgerald Funeral Home & Crematory. To know Steve was to love him and he was a man with no enemies. He loved his family, music and had the spiritual gift of sarcasm.
Survivors include his wife, Gale; son, Aaron (Leslie) McVay; daughter Danielle (Francois Fredette) McVay; proud and loving Paw of 10 grandchildren; mother Vana McVay (Bil)l Mitchell; brothers, Dave (Wanda) McVay and Roger McVay; sister, Debra (Frank) Fuca; 3 nephews and 3 nieces; brother-in-law, Karl (Kelly) Huber; sisters-in-law Crystal Prosise and Jeannette Brake. Predeceased by his father.
A funeral service to celebrate Steve's life with be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, June 19, 2014 at Fitzgerald Funeral Home & Crematory, 1860 S. Mulford Rd. Rockford with Rev. Herman A. Brown and Rev. Karl Huber officiating. Visitation will be held from 6:30 – 9:00pm on Wednesday, June 18, 2014 at the funeral home and also from 10:00 a.m .until the time of service Thursday at the .
