Susan "Sue' Foley

Susan “Sue” Foley, 71, Rockford, passed away early Tuesday, January 30, 2018, in Serenity Hospice and Home in Oregon due to complications from peripheral artery disease. “Good teachers are with us for a lifetime and beyond”. The world lost one of the great teachers in Rockford. She was born March 8, 1946, in Galesburg, the daughter of William and Muriel “Sue” (Robertson) Foley. Sue graduated from Marycrest College in Davenport, IA, where she was the student body president. She was a middle school teacher at Wilson and Flynn schools for 35 years and was recognized as one of the top eight teachers in Illinois. She also spent time working as a teacher in Mexico City, retiring in 2001. Sue was active in the Rock Valley College Center for Learning in Retirement, the Rockford North Suburban Library District, and Court Street United Methodist Church. She also worked on the John B. Anderson presidential campaign. Sue sponsored many international children through Childreach International in Nepal, India, and Honduras. Her priority was her friends, her faith, and her cats.
Survived by her sisters, Kathleen “Kay” (Bill) Barancik of Marina del Rey, CA, Patricia “Trish” (Richard) Thomsen of Colorado Springs, CO, Janet (Dennis) Slagter Woodbridge, VA, Virginia “Ginny” (Steve) Klopfer of Ballwin, MO; her brothers, Thomas (Carla Markwart) Foley of Galesburg, James (Rick) Foley of Peoria, and Daniel (Patty) Foley of Lucknow, India; many nieces, nephews, and cousins in Singapore, India, Australia, and Europe. She will especially miss her cat “BA”. Predeceased by her parents, Sue and William Foley.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M., Thursday, February 1, 2018, in Court Street United Methodist Church, 215 N. Court St. Rockford, with Reverend Calvin Culpepper officiating. Private family burial at a later date. Visitation will be from 10:00 A.M. until 10:45 A.M. on Thursday at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Serenity Hospice and Home, 1658 S.
