THOMAS W. SMITH, 77
ROCKFORD — Thomas W. Smith, 77, passed away Fri-day, Jan. 23, 2015, at Rock-ford Memorial Hospital. Born Oct. 17, 1937; the son of Orange and Genevieve (O’Malley) Smith. Graduated St. Thomas High School, Class of 1955. He married Bonnie McLaren in Rockford on June 28, 1968. Member of St. James Catholic Church. Thomas worked in sales throughout his career at Do-All, Rex Sales, Bay State, and Greenlees. He was a 50 plus year member of the Rockford Elks Club, Lodge #64. Thomas enjoyed watching and playing sports. He was an avid Green Bay Packer and Chi-cago White Sox fan. In addition, he loved doing crossword puzzles, playing golf with his buddies, and being a part of ball clubs. He enjoyed spending time watching his TV shows, The Price is Right, Wheel of Fortune, and Turner Classic Movies. Thomas was known for his love of animals and his family. Survivors include wife, Bonnie; son, Anthony (Joni) Smith; daughters, Erma Gillenwater and Sally (Michael) Rogers; son, Ray (Mary) Ulm; grandchildren, Krista Rogers, Jennifer (Shaun) Melton, B.J. Rogers, Andrew (Megan) Ulm, Fallon Smith, Brittany (Joey) Cran-dall, Kristine Smith, Austin Smith, Brienna Ulm; 5 great-grandchildren; brother, Michael (Judy) Smith; sister, Louise Affeld; nieces and nephews, Cynthia (Jeff) Kindgren, Daniel Smith, Ryan (Sarah) Smith, Thomas (Anne) Af-feld, Amy Bodtke, Susan (Jeff) Smith, and J.P. Affeld. He was preceded in death by parents; and brother, Stephen Smith. The family would like to give a special thanks to the staff of Rockford Memorial Hospital, Critical Care Unit.
Funeral Mass will be
11 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 28, 2015, at St. James Catholic Church. Burial at St. Mary’s/St. James Catholic Cemetery. Visitation will be 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 27, at Fitzgerald Funeral Home & Crematory, 1860 S. Mul-ford Rd., Rockford, IL, and from 10 a.m. until time of mass Wednesday at the church.
