Tiberi Mastrangeli

December 3, 1918 — March 10, 2012

Tiberi P. Mastrangeli, 93, of Rockford, passed away Saturday, March 10, 2012, in his home, surrounded by his family. He was born December 3, 1918, in Rockford, the son of John and Rita (Pompeo) Mastrangeli. Tiberi was a graduate of Rockford Central High School. He was a veteran of WWII serving in the Army Air Corps; based in Alaska and the South Pacific. After the War he owned and operated Erwin'¢s Restaurant "Tiberi'¢s" with his brother, Al, on East State St., near Rockford City Hall. After running Erwin'¢s for 27 years Tiberi took over management of the Mark II Restaurant. He was coowner of Arrow Ambulance Service and later worked as an inspector for the State Agricultural Dept. and then as special assistant to the Illinois Lottery Control Board. He retired from Pace Corporate after serving as a supervisor for twenty years. Tiberi married Alice Arden Staley in 1949 and had a son John. He met Sara Martin in 1957; they will were married in 1981.In his younger years, Tiberi caddied at Forest Hills Country Club, played baseball for the Press Club Baseball Team, , and learned to fly at the Blackhawk Flying Club. He loved to play golf and was a diehard New York Yankees fan. He was always helping people and a genuine friend to everyone who knew him. In his later years he delighted in meeting his buddies early every morning for coffee.Special thanks to Dr. Sheldon Weiss, his staff, and the lab technicians at Rockford Health Systems. Also, to the nurses and staff at Northern Illinois Hospice and Grief Center for their kind, compassionate, and loving care throughout Tiberi'¢s illness. He is survived by his loving wife, Sara; son, John Mastrangeli of Dallas, Texas; former daughterinlaw, Joan Mastrangeli of Sugar Land, Texas; grandchildren, Mark (Kim), Scott, and Jill Mastrangeli; sister, Jennifer Heaslip of Rockford; his brother, Al'¢s wife, Charlotte Mastrangeli; many nieces and nephews. Predeceased by his parents, his sister, Ida Calacurcio and his brother, Al Mastrangeli; brothersinlaw, Charles Calacurcio and Richard Heaslip.Funeral services will be at 1:00 pm, Thursday, March 15, 2012, at Fitzgerald Funeral Home and Crematory, Mulford Chapel, 1860 S.
