Rockford Tilden Payne Meyers, 80, died Friday, August 14, 2009 at home surrounded by his family. Born in Geneva, IL. On December 6, 1928 to George and Marion (Payne) Meyers. Graduated from Geneva High School in 1947 and inducted into the Hall of Fame in 2002. Graduated University of Wisconsin and earned a bachelor degree in animal husbandry in 1951. Was a member of the football team for 4 years and the track team for 3 years and a member of the Alpha Gamma Rho fraternity. Season ticket holder and a member of the W Club at the University since graduation. Married his loving wife Marilyn (Carlson) Meyers in 1951 in St. Charles, IL. Member of the Farm Bureau and former member of the Belvidere School Board. Employed as Kane County Farm Bureau Assistant Farm Advisor, Self-employed farmer, International Harvester Farm implement dealer and maintenance foreman for State of Illinois Toll way system. After retirement he worked part time maintenance at Mutual Reinsurance Bureau of Cherry Valley. Member of Rockford FirstAssembly and served as head usher for several years.

Survived by; wife, Marilyn; children, Leeanne (Daniel) Scarpetta their children Cody and Kelsey Scarpetta, Tim (Tina) Meyers daughter Taylor Meyers, Thomas Meyers, Tilden Jr. (Venetia) Meyers their children Jane, Alex and Zachary, and Lavonne (David ) Smiley their son Jake. Special niece and nephew Brett and Melissa Meyers and their children Mitchell, Karly and Jenna Meyers. Predeceased by parents George Meyers and Marion Meyers Johnson, daughter Laurie Meyers Potter and brother Frank.

A special thank you to the medical staff of Gulf Coast Medical Center in Fort Myers, FL, and the medical flight crew of Air Trek of Punta Gorda, FL, Hospice Care of America, and to Pastor Josh Yang of Rockford First Assembly. With Tildens fierce sense of athletic competitiveness following retirement he enjoyed watching his grandchildren compete on the soccer and football fields and baseball and softball diamonds locally and throughout the United States.



Funeral Service 11a.m. Thursday, August 20, 2009 at Rockford First Assembly 5950 Spring Creek. Pastor Ray Corlew officiating. Visitation will be held from 5 until 8 p.m. Wednesday, August 19, 2009 at Fitzgerald Funeral Home and Mulford Chapel 1860 S. Mulford Road.
