Verla Mae Olson

Verla Mae Olson, 67, Rockford, passed away Sunday, August 9, 2015. She was born October 9, 1947, in Oak Park, the daughter of Russell Joseph and Nelle Marie (Gustafson) Olson. She was a graduate of Waller High School in Chicago. Verla married Wayne Ortmeier, Sr. in Rockford. She worked at various jobs in the Chicago area including as a waitress, bartender, deli worker, and theater production manager. She worked most recently as a caregiver in Belvidere. She was active in the VFW hall, Post #1461 in Belvidere.
Survived by her husband, Wayne Ortmeier, Sr.; her step-children, Wayne Ortmeier, Jr., Maria Dreyer and William Ortmeier; her 6 step-grandchildren and 2 step-great grandchildren; twin brothers, Martin (Jo Ann) Olson and Merle (Sharon) Olson and her twin brother, Vernon (Ellen) Olson; her sister, Ann Epley; many nieces and nephews and her 2 furry grandchildren, Swiffy and Sadie Mae. Predeceased by her father, Russell Olson and her mother, Nelle Marie Olson Gerts; her brother and sister-in-law, Jack and Loretta Gerts.
Funeral services will be held at 6:00 P.M., Wednesday, August 12, 2015, at Fitzgerald Funeral Home and Crematory, Riverside Chapel, 3910 N. Rockton Ave, with Reverend Allan Buss officiating. Private family burial in Grandview Cemetery in Freeport. Visitation will be from 3:00 P.M. until time of service on Wednesday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the family.
