Vernon Leroy King

Vernon ""Bud"" LeRoy King, 85 of Rockford passed away January 23, 2008 in his home. Born June 20, 1922 in Rockford, the son of Charles and Cora (Zander) King. Bud married Kathryn V. Scudder in Freeport, IL on July 14, 1945. Bud has been a lifelong resident of Rockford and was employed by Rockford Screw Products as a headerman. Bud retired in 1984 after 39 years. Bud served with the United States Coast Guard during WWII. Bud made 29 trips across the Atlantic aboard a destroyer protecting ships against German submarines. He was also a longtime member of Messiah Lutheran Church. Bud is survived by his wife Kathryn, sons Gerald D. (Sue) King, Phillip W. (Florence) King and Daniel L. (Monica) King. Grandchildren Lori, Jason, Jade, Krystal, Jenna, Julianna and great-grandchild Skyla. He is predeceased by his parents, brother David, sisters Dorothy, Kate and Betty. Grandchild Daniel Jr. and great-grandchild Jason. Memorial Service will be Saturday, January 26, 2008 at 3:30 p.m. in Fitzgerald Funeral Home & Crematory, Riverside Chapel, 3910 N. Rockton Ave. Visitation will be in the funeral home from 1:30 until time of service. Interment will be private. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the family to be established at a later date. To
