Wayne Erickson

Wayne Erickson, 87, Rockford, died peacefully in his home on Saturday, June 22, 2013 with his loving wife by his side. Born June 2, 1926 in Rockford, son of George and Emma (Bjork) Erickson. Graduated from Harlem High School in 1945 where he was actively involved in many sports and loved to dive on the high board. He still enjoyed getting together with friends from his high school days. Following high school he entered the Occupational Army in Europe and was honorably discharged as a Technical Sargeant in 1947. He married Evajean Fridly on March 24, 1951 in Grace Methodist Church. He had lovingly built a home for them before they were married and continued to do repairs and caring for their home throughout his life. He was a perfectionist and could build or repair anything. Former member of Grace United Methodist Church. Wayne was employed by Elco Industries as a machinist for over 39 years. He and Evajean did many sports together and ballroom danced throughout their life. They belonged to four dance clubs, went on 5 caribbean cruises, visited Hawaii and vacationed in Fort Myers Beach, FL for 19 years. Wayne was almost a phenomenon when it came to sports, having participated at one time or another, in 22 sports. His children and grandchildren were always encouraged and supported in their sports activities also. His grandchildren were always his pride and joy. Survivors include his loving wife, Evajean; son, Steven W. (Susan) Erickson; daughter, Jill (Mark) Girardin; grandchildren, Jason (fiancé, Lauren Mandac) Girardin, Jenna (Brandon) Klintworth, Stephanie Erickson, Conor Erickson; niece, Gale (Jeff) Vincent and great nieces, Stacy (Nathan) Jones and Heidi (Shawn) Breon. Predeceased by his parents, brother, Clifford Russell (Janette) Erickson and niece, Coral Erickson Reum. A funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m. Friday, June 28, 2013 in Fitzgerald Funeral Home & Crematory, Riverside Chapel, 3910 N. Rockton Ave. with Rev. Dean Parker officiating. Visitation from 9:00 a.m. until time of the service. Private family burial in Willwood Burial Park. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the family for a memorial to be determined at a future date
