Wayne L. Greenfield

May 25, 1930 — October 28, 2021

Chief Master Sergeant (ret.) Wayne “Bud” Greenfield, age 91, of Shalimar, Florida passed away on October 28, 2021. Mr. Greenfield was born to immigrant parents, Dick (from Germany) and Ragna (from Norway) in 1930 on a farm near the small town of Ashton, Illinois.

Mr. Greenfield attended public schools and played basketball at Ashton High School. Mr. Greenfield proudly served his entire career in the United States Air Force. Among his many commendations, he was awarded the Quilt of Valor. He and Bonnie loved the military life—especially the many friends they made throughout his career. The Greenfield family was stationed stateside in Texas, Illinois, Michigan, and North Carolina, and abroad in Germany, England, and the Philippines. They also enjoyed traveling “Space-A” many times both domestic and abroad, and sometimes, not knowing where they were going until they arrived! The couple’s last trip was to Shalimar, Florida when they moved into Bob Hope Village housing for retired enlisted military families.

Mr. Greenfield is preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Becky who passed at age eleven; daughter-in-law, Karon Greenfield; grandson, Kyle Greenfield; and five siblings, Dorothy, Dick, Ruby, Margaret, and Jim.

Mr. Greenfield is survived by his loving wife of seventy-two years, Bonnilynn (Bonnie); two sons, Barry(Pat) Greenfield and Bill Greenfield; grandchildren, Jessica, Melissa, Matt, and Kati; great-grandchildren, Logan, Connor, Fisher, and Riley Rose; and sister, Mary Alice, 94, the last survivor of Bud's family.

The Greenfield family wishes to express their heartfelt thanks to Dr. Moore & Nurse Angie at Suncrest Home Health Care, Hawthorne House Memory Care, Fort Walton Beach Rehab Center, and the Hospice care who took such wonderful care of Mr. Greenfield, Chaplain Beth Bateson, and to brother-in-law Ted and wife Carol for their continued love and support.

A memorial service will be held in the Dolores Hope Chapel at Bob Hope Village with Chaplain Beth Bateson officiating. As well, a memorial service will be held in Ashton, Illinois at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation in Bud Greenfield’s name to Bob Hope Village, or a charity of your choice.
