Wendie L. Woehler

June 8, 1950 — March 9, 2021

Wendie Lee Woehler, 70, of Roscoe, IL, passed away peacefully with her husband and daughter by her side on March 9, 2021 following a courageous, decade-long battle with a rare endocrine cancer. She was born in Rockford, IL on June 8, 1950 to Clarence “Bud” and Lorraine (Thompson) Turner. Wendie graduated from Harlem High School and went on to Southern Illinois University Carbondale where she received her Bachelor’s in education in 1972. Wendie married Randy Woehler on August 19, 1972 at Grace Lutheran Church in Loves Park, IL. Wendie was a celebrated teacher and taught at Maple Elementary School, Loves Park for 32 years. She was raised Lutheran and as she grew older her spiritual beliefs expanded and drew from additional faiths. Wendie was an active member of an Intenders group. She enjoyed crafting, reading, and playing Bocce ball at the St. Ambrogio Society with her friends. Along with her husband, she was a Chicago Bears fan, followed college basketball, and at times held season tickets for the DePaul Blue Demons and the Rockford Lightening. Wendie loved hosting get-togethers and was a great cook especially known for her olive salsa and baked beans. Throughout her life Wendie loved music and dancing, taking in her fair share of live concerts. Wendie enjoyed nature and loved sitting on her patio. She had a love for animals, especially her dogs Cinder, Daisy and Hobbes. Upon retirement she took up the game of golf, playing with her husband locally and in Florida. Wendie and Randy loved to travel, visiting places like Hawaii, Mexico, Punta Cana and the Florida beaches. Wendie loved her family: she had a very special bond with her grandson Elliot and will be greatly missed by those that loved her.

Wendie is survived by her husband of 48 years, Randy; her daughter, Lauren Woehler; her grandson, Elliot Cottreau; her brother, Gary (Sandy) Turner; her niece, Jaymie (Joe) Cook; her nephew, Chris (Lisa Lynn) Turner; her great nieces, Marilu and Emma Jo; and her great nephews Jacob and Lucas. She is preceded in death by her parents; infant son Andrew J. Woehler; and special aunt, Lee Borre.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to Northern Illinois Hospice and the doctors, nurses and staff at Mayo Clinic. Randy and Lauren whole heartedly thank their family, friends, and neighbors for the outpouring of love and support during this time.
