William S. Zies

William Stanley "Bill" Zies, 79, Rockford, passed away Friday, August 31, 2012, at OSF St. Anthony Medical Center.He was born August 5, 1933, in Rochelle, the son of Stanley and Alta Zies.Bill married Margie Gustafson in Rockford on December 21, 1963. Bill worked in Personnel for the Barber Company for 40 years and then in Human Resources at Rock Valley Credit Union for 10 years. He enjoyed playing golf and was an avid bowler. Bill was a member of the VFW in Rochelle and the Moose Club in Belvidere. Survived by his "Angel" Margie; his daughter, Cindy (Jeff Manthei) Kalstrom of Rockford,; his son, William John "Bill" Zies of Japan; grandchildren, Jason and Erich Kalstrom of Rockford and Rayna and Marisa Zies of Japan; great granddaughter, Leah Marie Merkel; sisterinlaw and brotherinlaw, Carey and Ruth Gates of Albany, Georgia; brotherinlaw, Bob Gustafson of Sun City, AZ; many nieces and nephews; his furry kittens, Angel and Gizmo.Predeceased by his parents, his brother, Melvin Zies and his nephew, Kevin Gustafson.Special thanks to the OSF St. Anthony Medical Center staff, Home Health and Physical Therapy, especially Tony, Father William Wentink, Rockford Cardiology, and the Rockford Fire Dept. paramedics. Funeral Mass will be at 11:00 am, Monday, September 3, 2012, at St. James Catholic Church, 428 N. 2 nd St. with Fr.William Wentink officiating.Burial at Sunset Memorial Gardens at a later date. Visitation from 3:00 pm until 5:00 pm Sunday, September 2, 2012, at Fitzgerald Funeral Home and Crematory, Mulford Chapel, 1860 S. Mulford Rd and from 10:00 am until 10:45 am Monday at the church. A luncheon will be served at LinosRestaurant immediately following the service at church. Memorials to OSF Medical Center Foundation or the Provena St. Anne Center.
