In Loving Memory of Austin Michael Ruggles 

On August 2, 2026, Austin Michael Ruggles left this world far too soon. While our hearts may never understand why he was taken from us at just 23 years old, we find comfort in believing Heaven needed a little more laughter—and Austin was the perfect person to bring it. Austin was born on December 3, 2002, at Rockford Memorial Hospital to Amber Clarke and Shane Ruggles. He lived life with a smile on his face, a joke always ready, and a heart that was devoted to the people he loved. Austin never met a stranger. He had a way of making everyone laugh, whether he was singing, rapping, joking around, or playfully trash-talking the people closest to him. He loved keeping life interesting and could always be counted on to lighten the mood. While working at Grant Park Tavern, he became known for more than just the food he cooked—customers looked forward to his jokes, quick wit, and the way he made everyone feel welcome. If there was one person who meant everything to Austin, it was his mom, Amber. Their bond went far beyond that of mother and son—they grew up together, faced life’s challenges together, and celebrated every victory together. She was his biggest supporter, his safe place, and his best friend. The love and appreciation he had for his mom was something he wasn’t afraid to show, and anyone who knew them could see just how special their relationship truly was. Austin also shared a special bond with his Nana, Michelle Rubert, and with his Uncle Marc and Aunt Gloria, who loved him unconditionally and were always there for him. He proudly looked up to his uncles, Marc, Aaron, and Matthew Clarke, carrying pieces of each of them with him throughout his life. Being a big brother was one of Austin’s greatest joys. He loved his siblings—Aeneas, Destiny, Shane Jr., Raylynn, and Araya. His relationship with Aeneas was especially meaningful, often referring to himself as his “brother’s keeper” and always making sure his little brother knew he was loved and protected. Austin was also a proud uncle to Dominique, Dior, and Messiah, thanks to his sister Destiny, and treasured every moment he spent with them. Although Austin had many cousins, he shared an especially close bond with Maryiah, Monica, Harmony, and Brycen. Growing up together, they were more like siblings than cousins, creating memories and friendships that will last forever. Austin is survived by his loving mother, Amber Clarke (Mark); his father, Shane Ruggles (Tracey); his siblings, Aeneas, Destiny, Shane Jr., Raylynn, and Araya; his grandmother, Michelle Rubert (fiancé, Brad); his uncles, Marc and Aaron Clarke; his nieces and nephews, Dominique, Dior, and Messiah; along with numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, extended family members, and friends who will forever cherish his memory. Austin was preceded in death by his great-grandparents, Billie and John Clarke, Elaine and Richard Rubert; his grandfather, Marc Clarke; his grandmother, Sharon Copeland; and his beloved Uncle Matthew Clarke. Though Austin’s life was far too short, the joy he brought to others will live on forever. His laughter, his love for his family, and the countless memories he created will continue to echo in the hearts of everyone blessed enough to know him. Visitation will be held on Monday, August 10, 2026, from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at Fitzgerald Funeral Home, 3910 N. Rockton Avenue, Rockford, Illinois. Funeral services will begin at 1:00 p.m., followed by burial at Greenwood Cemetery. A luncheon will be announced following the funeral service.
