Barbara Ann McNaught, 86, Rockford, passed away peacefully with her loving family by her side on Friday, April 11, 2014, at Presence Saint Anne Center. She was born March 24, 1928, in Decatur, the daughter of William J. and Gladys (Burley) Heer. She married James R. McNaught on March 16, 1956, in Rockford. He predeceased her on August 28, 2006. Barbara was a long distance operator for Illinois Bell Telephone Company, retiring in 1983 after 37 years of service. She was an avid reader and remained well informed on many subjects from politics to biblical archaeology. She dearly loved the pet dogs she had during her lifetime and had a special place in her heart for all animals. She took great pride in her home and also enjoyed gardening and traveling in the United States. Her greatest joys were those times spent with her family, especially with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She will forever be remembered for her unconditional love, work ethic, patriotism, and her spirit and strength in the face of adversity.
Survived by her daughter, Linda (Daniel) Halvorson of Rockford; her grandchildren, Katie (Michael) Westberg of Prescott, WI and James (Gina) Halvorson of Lockport; her great-grandchildren, Griffin and Porter Westberg and Jack Halvorson; her sister, Rosemary (Aleck) Johnsen of Northbrook; her brother, William E. Heer of Decatur; many nieces and nephews. Barbara will be terribly missed but forever held close in their hearts. Barbara's family would like to extend heartfelt gratitude to Presence St. Anne Center, especially the D Hall staff for the love, compassion, and respect that was extended to Barbara during her recent illness.
Per Barbara's request, cremation rites will be accorded and memorial services will be private. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Noah's Ark Pet Sanctuary, 111 North First St., Rockford, 61107 or Presence St. Anne Center, 4405 Highcrest Rd., Rockford, 61107.
