78, of Rockford, IL. Passed away on Friday, September 15, 2023, in her home, surrounded by her loving family. Daughter of Maurice and Bernice (Bunny) Herrmann, she was born on May 18, 1945, and grew up on a farm in Rochelle, Illinois with her sister and brother (Armella & Frank). Betty graduated from Rochelle Township High School in 1963, and went on to attend Mt. St. Clare College in Clinton, Iowa. While completing her sophomore year, Betty met the love of her life, Henry Baumann, a student at the neighboring St. Ambrose College. Betty and Hank’s friendship blossomed into a loving marriage of 54 years. Betty had always dreamt of having her own family. She was an incredible mother to her three children and became the chosen mom of many others in the neighborhood. Betty’s love of children led her to teaching elementary and preschool for around a decade, where she impacted countless more. She was a gifted gardener and would always share bountiful harvests with her friends and family. Betty cherished spending time with her family; her children, Ken (Holley) Baumann, Tonya (James) Watson, and Michele Baumann; her grandchildren, Trevor, Noelle, Amado, Natalie, David, Stella, Sienna, and Naomi; her great-grandchildren, Jayce and Laci; her sister Armella Hicks. She is predeceased by her husband, parents, and brother. Funeral Mass will be held at 10:30 A.M. on Thursday, September 21, 2023, at St. Edward’s Catholic Church, 3004 11th Street, Rockford, IL, with Reverend Johnson Lopez officiating. Burial will be in St. James Calvary Catholic Cemetery in Lee, IL. Visitation will be from 5:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. on Wednesday, September 20, 2023, at Fitzgerald Funeral Home and Crematory, Mulford Chapel, 1860 S. Mulford Rd. Rockford with the Rosary recited at 8:00 P.M. Visitation will continue Thursday morning at the church from 9:30 A.M. until time of Mass.
