Bruce A. Greenberg

Bruce Greenberg of Rockford Illinois passed away peacefully on Saturday May 2nd 2026 after a brief illness. Born in Rockford on July 30th 1936, he was the son of Harry and Aufield Greenberg. He was a devoted husband to his wife, Kathy Greenberg with whom he shared 48 years of marriage, and a loving father to his children, Gordy and Debbie Greenberg.

Bruce graduated from East High School in Rockford then spent many years in the manufacturing industry. He was most proud of his 20+ years working alongside his son at A-1 Lapping. Even after retirement he made it a point to touch base on a regular basis to see how the business was progressing.

He was known for his love and skill of multiple hobbies. He was an avid golfer, die hard Chicago Bears fan, and could often be found at a card table at the Lyran Club where he was well known as a very skilled player. One of his favorite pastimes was watching his grandchildren and great grandchildren compete in their various extracurricular activities.

Bruce is survived by his wife, Kathy Greenberg of Rockford, his son Gordy (Jo Ann) Greenberg; his daughter Debbie Greenberg; stepchildren Tom (Kathy) Flygare; Jim (Aracelli) Flygare; Dave (Blanca) Flygare; and numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents Harry and Aufield Greenberg, his sister Karen Johnson, and his granddaughter Jamie King.

The family would like to thank his Northern Illinois Hospice team for their grace and compassion in his final days.

Services will be held at Fitzgerald Funeral Home, 1860 South Mulford Road, Rockford, Illinois, 61108 on Friday May 8th 2026. Visitation will be from 1:30 - 2:30 p.m. with the funeral immediately following.
