Carol Dianne Konecnik

October 16, 1943 — January 8, 2026

Crystal Lake

Carol Dianne Konecnik, 82, passed away on January 8, 2026. She was born on October 16, 1943, the daughter of Lester Maxwell and Margaret Lockwood. She was married to the love of her life, Richard Robert Konecnik, on Valentine’s Day of 1971. Together they built a family and ran a family business.

Deeply devoted to her faith and a longtime member of St. Mary Oratory in Rockford, she was proud to be one of the 3 women who gathered the signatures (with a broken foot) requesting Traditional Latin Masses in the Rockford Diocese. Carol enjoyed traveling across many states in the US as well as the entire world including Japan, Greece, Ireland, Germany and Italy. Visiting holy places in her travels continued to feed her faith. Her love for travel allowed her to make many unforgettable memories with dear family and friends.

Carol was a leader of La Leche League where she met many friends and aided helping moms navigate breastfeeding. An avid knitter and crocheter, she made a point of leaving her children and grandchildren many beautiful afghans, sweaters, and hats.

Carol constantly evangelized her faith to her friends and community. Her faith and family remained at the center of her life, especially her grandchildren, who were one of her greatest joys.

Carol was the proud mother of Craig Konecnik, Keith (Tatyana) Konecnik, Renee (John) Nelson, Kathleen (Adrian) Baca, Genevieve (Michael) Gregory and Zachary (Sendy) Konecnik; cherished grandmother of 25 and sister of Loren and Sharen. She is also survived by her brother-in-law, Kenneth (Joan) Konecnik and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Carol will also be missed by her friends who remained close even in her last days as well as the Canons of the Institute of Christ the King and other priests who took such great spiritual care of her as well.

Flower arrangements are welcome and memorial donations may be made in Carol’s name to St. Mary's Oratory, 517 Elm St, Rockford, IL 61102.

A Requiem High Mass will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, January 16, 2026, at St. Mary Oratory, 517 Elm St. Rockford, IL 61102. Visitation will be held from 5:00 - 7:00 p.m. with a Rosary at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday, January 15, 2026, at Fitzgerald Funeral Home, 1860 S. Mulford Rd. Rockford, IL 61108.
