Charles J. Mufich

February 7, 1947 — April 13, 2025

Oswego

Charles “Chuck” Joseph Mufich, 78, of Oswego, died Sunday, April 13th, 2025, after a short illness. Born February 7th, 1947, in Watervliet, MI. Chuck was the son of Lillian (Borchwald) and Joseph Mufich. He was a 1965 graduate of Luther South. He earned a bachelor’s degree from Southern Illinois University and a master’s degree from Chicago State University. In 1970, Charles married Tara (Zickuhr) in Belvidere, IL. They raised 3 daughters, Monica (d. April 2023), Meredith and Melanie. Chuck taught at many colleges, technical colleges and high schools throughout his working life and was also a published author. He retired from Hononegah High School and still did work as a consultant in Rockford District 205 and Rock Falls High School District 301. Chuck was very involved when it came to his daughters, coaching them for years in club soccer. He was the President of Rockford United Soccer Club and found the location that is now Sportscore 2. He also started a huge push for girls’ soccer in the 1990s. He coached at Hononegah where he was a champion coach, and he did that during the club season, taking multiple 1st place wins at tournaments. He thrived to show excellence and determination while being humble during tough situations. He had so much pride in what he had accomplished from his education, his career, his family, his grandchildren, his friends, his students, and a newly found family in AA. His laugh was contagious, his wit was hilarious, and his advice was sound. Survivors include children, Meredith (Joe) Vukovic, and Melanie Mufich; grandchildren, Addison, Audrey, Dominic, Isabella, Juliana, and Charles James; fiancée Lesle Koepp, brother, Ralph (Charmaine) Mufich and James Mufich; sisters, Joyce Mufich, Marilyn (Al) Tague, and Donna Mufich; sister-in-law Marci Rewoldt; and numerous nieces and nephews, cousins, friends, mentees and past colleagues. He had so many people in his life that cared for and loved him. Preceded in death by his parents, wife, daughter, and best friend, Dimmie Manolis.
