Christine M. Stadel, 37 (Dougherty) (Shelain) nbsp; Following a 7 year valiant encounter with breast cancer, Christine M. Stadel, 37, of Rockford departed this life surrounded by her family at 4:25 p.m. on Monday, February 12, 2007 in her home. Born on December 20, 1969 in Rockford; daughter of Richard C. and Maxine A. (Dougherty) Shelain. She graduated in 1987 from West High School where she was active in musical theater. Christine had a beautiful voice and regularly shared her gift with family and friends. She recorded a CD with songs dedicated to her family. Christine was a member of St. Marys Catholic Church in DeKalb where she lived for many years. The Knights of Columbus in DeKalb was an important part of Christines life, and she was extremely active in the Womens Auxiliary. She attended Millikin University in Decatur, and was a member of the Zeta Tau Alpha Sorority. She also attended Northern Illinois University and Kishwaukee College. Christine was an avid league dart player, traveling to Las Vegas for tournaments. She loved to bake and decorate specialty cakes for festive occasions, a skill she learned years ago while working at Pic-N-Sav. Christine worked for many years as a Buyer for Standard Register in DeKalb. She cherished the circle of friends she came to know and love through these organizations. Christine participated in breast cancer awareness activities and fundraising events. She exemplified faith, grace and strength in the face of adversity. Her love and laughter will forever remain in the hearts of those who knew her. Survivors include her parents, Richard and Maxine Shelain; brother, Richard M. Stadel (special friend, Michelle Fowler) of Plano, TX; sister, Suzanne M. Shelain (husband, William F. Lewis) of Rockford; brother, Gregory M. Shelain (special friend, Laurisa Johnson) of Rockford; paternal grandmother, Dora I. Graham of Freeport; maternal grandparents, Don and Donna Dougherty of Stockton; beloved aunts, uncles, cousins; and many dear friends. Predeceased by George M. Babich of DeKalb, the love of her life, in 2003; father, Richard B. Stadel on March 3, 1970; paternal grandfather, Beuford C. Stadel in 2005; maternal grandmother, Marjorie Casey Dougherty in 1975; paternal grandfather, Richard F. Shelain in 1995; and cousin, Steve Harbers in 2003. Christines family extends their gratitude to Dr. Sabet Siddiqui and the staff at the Kishwaukee Cancer Center, Dr. Bharati Bhate and the staff at the IL Regional Cancer Center, and Debbie and the nurses of Northern IL Hospice. Funeral Mass will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, February 17, 2007 at the Cathedral of St. Peter, 1243 N. Church Street, with Rev. David E. Beauvais officiating. Burial in Greenwood Cemetery. Visitation to be held on Friday, February 16, 2007 from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at Fitzgerald Funeral Home, 1860 S. Mulford Rd. Rockford, IL, with a rosary recited at 7:15 p.m. Visitation will continue on Saturday from 10 to 11 a.m. at the Church. Memorials may be made to the Kishwaukee Cancer Center in care of Dr. Sabet M. Siddiqui, 9 Health Services Drive, DeKalb, ILnbsp; 60115.
