Dennis Elliot Alderman, 79, of Cherry Valley, passed away on Wednesday, June 3, 2026.
Dennis was born in Hartford, CT on August 23, 1946, the son of Ernest and Madeline (West) Alderman. He graduated High School in Farmington, CT and later attended the University of Pittsburgh, PA. Dennis proudly served his country in the United States Army and was a 10-year Vietnam Veteran.
He married Darlene M. Mahan on December 31, 1991. Dennis worked for many dedicated years in the purchasing department of the aerospace industry for Sundstrand Corp. He attended St. Rita Catholic Church and was involved with the VFW, DAV and was very active in coaching youth sports including coaching his children in baseball and football. Dennis was a fan of all sports, especially baseball and loved to cheer on his Baltimore Orioles as well as the Pittsburgh Steelers. He had a deep love and passion for his country and most importantly, spending time with dear family and friends. He will be remembered most for simply being a great person who was always kind to everyone, whether he knew them or not. Dennis will be dearly missed.
Surviving relatives include his wife, Darlene Alderman; children, Eric Alderman, Tami Hernandez, Brooke Brown and William (Sarah) Brown; grandchildren, Janet (Stevie) Isabella, Anastasia, Cornelio, Estaban, Gianni, Azareon and several great and great-great grandchildren as well. Dennis is predeceased by his parents and sister, Joanne Alderman.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Dennis’s name to the Wounded Warrior Project.
Visitation will be held on Monday, June 15, 2026, from 10:00 a.m. until the time of a service at 12:00 p.m. located at Fitzgerald Funeral Home, 1860 S. Mulford Rd. Rockford, IL 61108. Burial will conclude in Calvary Catholic Cemetery. Share online condolences and memories at www.fitzgeraldfh.com
