Dennis L. Daly

Dennis L. Daly, 82, died on 12/31/2023 at 12:03 a.m. at Swedish American Hospital after a short illness. He was born on February 7, 1941, in East Moline, Illinois, the son of Eileen Hummel Daly Cook and Harry Daly.

After the family moved from East Moline in 1947, he lived on Kelley Road, Rockford, He graduated from Winnebago High School, working in construction and farming all his life. After retiring he worked in services at OSF Hospital.

Dennis was an active member of the Winnebago School Board serving for over 14 years, retiring this past year. He serves as Burritt Township Supervisor and on the Shirland, Harrison, Burritt Multi township Board. He also served as Cub Scout Master and as a bus driver for many years. He was an active member of St. Bernadette Parish, where he enjoyed greeting the parishioners and ushering.

He married Georgeanne Cannell on May 7, 1960. He is survived by his wife, Georgeanne; children Thomas (Lana), Denise Petersen, (Steven), Randolph (Donna), Shawn (Stephanie), Christopher (Danielle), David (Carrie); twin sister, Dorothy Ivens; sister, Kathy Hoffman and brother, George Daly. As well as 19 grandchildren, Benjamin, Lea, Allan, John, Megan, Zachary, Kayla, Brianne, Cole, Carissa, Rebecca, Kathryn, Austen, Nolan, Mackenzie, Daniel, Andrew, Holly, Emma; great grandchild, Ginger. He was predeceased by his parents and siblings, Larry Daly, and Jane Bier.

A visitation will take place on Thursday, January 11, 2023, from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Fitzgerald Funeral Home & Crematory, 3910 N. Rockton Road, Rockford, Illinois 61103. Visitation will continue Friday, January 12, 2023, from 9:00 a.m. until the time of Memorial Mass, 10:00 a.m. at St. Bernadette Catholic Church, 2400 Bell Ave, Rockford, Illinois 61103.
