Donald D. Lakey

Donald D. Lakey, 76, of Rockford, passed away on Friday, December 19, 2014. Born on July 8, 1938, to George and Madge Lakey in Burlington, Iowa. Don married Leigh (Wesner) Lakey on November 20, 1965 in Naperville, IL. He spent the majority of his working years as a career bartender. Don was a wild bird enthusiast and enjoyed puzzles, cooking, gardening, and reading. Survived by son (adopted) Jon (Tina) Lakey; daughter, Alison Lakey; son, Philip (Holly) Lakey; grandchildren, Eloise Lakey and Lazarus Torres; sister, Doris Jones; his best friend & long haired dachshund, Teddy Bear; and several nieces and nephews. Don is predeceased by his wife, Leigh Lakey in 2013, his younger sister, Vera Larson in 2006, and his parents. A celebration of Don’s life will be at 2:00 PM on Saturday, January 10, 2015, at The Unitarian Universalist Church, 4848 Turner St., Rockford, IL, 61107, with Rev. Dr. Matthew Johnson officiating.
