Donald Ted Wang, formerly of Shelby Township, Michigan, died on Saturday, October 4, 2025 at 8:31 p.m. after a brief illness and residential care at Anam Care Facility, Rockford, IL. Donald was the eldest of four sons born to Harold S. and Eleanor Andresen Wang in Chicago on May 7, 1942. Donald was a confirmed bachelor but an amazing son, brother and uncle to his immediate and extended family. He graduated from Carl Schurz High School, Chicago as a dedicated member and officer of the R.O.T.C. Earlier he had been a stand out student at Farnsworth Elementary School as the School Mayor and Captain of the Safety Patrol. He took responsibility seriously. His skills and hobbies were varied: he started a United Nations Stamp Club when the U.N. initiated it’s own Postal Administration; led Sunday School and youth groups at church; took an early interest in family history which he pursued well into adult life, including work with the Norwegian-American Geneological Association. Donald was a 1966 graduate of S.I.U. with a B.A degree. During his college years he worked at the Midwest Stock Exchange, Chicago. While there he was assigned by the President of the Exchange the sending of notices to all of the brokerage houses the word of the assassination of President John F. Kennedy and the closure of the exchange in respect for the slain president. Don was active in the U.S. Air Force and was stationed at Ramstein Air Force Base in Germany serving as a base fireman from 1967 to 1971. He was honorably discharged with the rank of Staff Sergeant. Donald worked many years (1971-2006) as a computer operator, analyst and systems security officer in various capacities of the computer industry corporation and companies. He was the family historian tracing Norwegian and Danish ancestry back to very early years in Norway and Denmark. Don was an incurable punster and was an uncle, brother and man of great generosity and kindness.
Survivors include his brothers, Richard (Jeanine) Wang, Cherry Valley and David (Allie) Wang, Omaha, NE; numerous nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews and special friend, Russell Cuthrull. Predeceased by his parents, brother, Robert (Betsy) Wang, sister-in-law, Jennifer Wang and nephew, Russell Wang.
