Dorothy Ann Kerestes passed away peacefully, surrounded by her family, on December 29, 2025, in Rockford, Illinois. She was born on July 28, 1938, in Streator, Illinois, the daughter of Andrew and Susan (Ritko) Lebo. A devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and friend, Dorothy's life was marked by her unwavering commitment to her family and her profound love for her Catholic faith.
Dorothy graduated from Streator High School, class of 1956. Known for her loving, caring, and family-oriented nature, Dorothy poured her heart into her relationships. On February 11, 1961, she married the love of her life, Donald J. Kerestes, in Rockford, Illinois, where together they raised their beautiful family. One of her greatest joys was capturing moments through photography. She had a profound passion for taking pictures and putting together photo albums, often sharing these treasured memories with her family. Her weekends were often spent at their cabin in Wisconsin with family and friends.
Dorothy was a cherished and active member of Holy Family Catholic Church. She was also an involved member of her community, serving others in many ways throughout her life. Dorothy's compassion and care extended beyond her immediate family; she brought joy to everyone she encountered. Her legacy of kindness and her passion for family will continue to resonate within the hearts of those she touched.
Dorothy is survived by her husband of 64 years, Donald “Don” Kerestes; children, Karen (Alan) Miller, Michael (Doreen) Kerestes, and Julie (Jonathan) Bastian; grandchildren, Maddison Miller, Colton Miller, Alexandra Miller, Jason (Jen) Kerestes, Matthew (Elly) Kerestes, Ashley Kerestes, Justin Kerestes, Johnny Kerestes, Marissa (Cody) Thompson, and Cameron Bastian; great-grandchild, Callum Thompson; sisters, Rosemary Creamean and Patsy Flavel; brother, Jim Lebo. She is predeceased by her parents and sister, Lucille Scarratt.
A visitation will be held in Rockford, Illinois on Friday, January 9, 2026, at 10:00 a.m. at Holy Family Catholic Church, 4401 Highcrest Road, Rockford, IL 61107, followed by a Funeral Mass at 11:00 a.m.
On Saturday, January 10, 2026, a visitation will be held in Streator, Illinois at 11:00 a.m. at Hagi-Schultz Funeral Home, 205 High Street, Streator, IL 61364, followed by a Prayer Service at 11:45 a.m. Burial will follow in Riverview Cemetery in Streator.
