Dr. Terrance N. Fisher

July 7, 1936 — December 17, 2025

Rockford

Dr. Terrance Norbert Fisher, son of Norbert and Frances Fisher, born in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, in 1936, and a longtime resident of Rockford, Illinois, passed away on December 17, 2025. A cardiologist and graduate of Marquette University High-school, Marquette University and Marquette University School of Medicine. He completed his internal medicine residency and cardiology fellowship at the University of Michigan and spent two years at the National Institute of Health with the Public Health Service. He joined the Rockford clinic in 1971 where he had the privilege to serve the Rockford community for 30 years. He truly lived his life as a man for others through his faith, service and compassion. He was a member of the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society and Alpha Sigma Nu, the honor society of Jesuit Colleges and Universities.

The official motto of Marquette University, a private Catholic, Jesuit institution, is the Latin phrase Ad majorem Dei gloriam, which translates to "For the greater glory of God". This adage reflects the university's core values of excellence, faith, leadership, and service, and underpins the Jesuit emphasis on continuous improvement and working for the benefit of society. This motto is a true testament and theme of the way Terry lived his life.

As a youth, he loved all sports, but especially baseball and hockey. He had the joy of playing at the Polo Grounds in New York City as a member of the All-Star National Youth Baseball Team in 1956.

Passionate about advocating for heart health, he served the American Heart Association throughout his career, including as president of the Winnebago and the state of Illinois chapters, and received the AHA Midwest Affiliate Outstanding Volunteer Award. He enjoyed golf, books, building miniatures, and traveling the world with Lois and took great pride in his children and grandchildren.

He married Lois Schaenzer in Milwaukee in 1961, and together they shared 64 years together with their four children. He is survived by his wife, Lois; their children David (Karen), John (Mary), Anne (Bob), and Michael (Linda); six grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; his sister Janet Hawk; and his nieces and nephew. He was preceded in death by his sister Mary Ellen Riesterer and brother-in-law Gary Hawk.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Jesuit Retreat House (4800 Farnwald Rd., Oshkosh, WI 54902), the American Heart Association (275 W. Wisconsin Ave., Suite 230 Milwaukee, WI 53203), or Carpenter’s Place of Rockford (1149 Railroad Ave., Rockford, IL 61104)
