Duane D. Duhigg • 1930–2025
Duane D. Duhigg, 95, of Belvidere, passed away peacefully on December 3, 2025. Born on July 7, 1930, in Davis Junction, Illinois, Duane was the son of Roger and Helen (Bolthous) Duhigg. He grew up in the Rockford area and graduated from East High School before beginning a long and dedicated career in quality control with Sundstrand. After retiring, he found joy in working part-time as a greens keeper at Elliott Golf Course—an environment that perfectly matched his love for the outdoors and the game of golf.
On December 30, 1985, Duane married the love of his life, Judith “Judy” Acker, in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. Together they shared a deeply devoted and joyful marriage, building a life centered around faith, family, and laughter.
Duane proudly served his country in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War aboard the seagoing tug, the Abnaki. His Navy years remained among his most cherished memories, and he continued to honor them by attending annual reunion trips across the United States with fellow veterans and their families.
A longtime member of Bethesda Covenant Church, Duane lived out his faith with kindness, humility, and a generous spirit. He was an avid sports fan—especially when it came to golfing and cheering on the Chicago Bears. He spent many years giving back by umpiring youth, high school, and recreational sports, sharing his love of the game with players of all ages. At home, he enjoyed playing solitaire and cribbage and was proud to teach both games to his kids and grandkids.
Above all, Duane was devoted to his family. He was known for his big heart, his gentle presence, and his ability to lighten any moment with a joke or playful sense of humor. He will be remembered as a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, and friend.
Duane is survived by his beloved wife, Judy; his brother, Jim (Melinda) Duhigg; his children; grandchildren; and great-grandchildren.
The family extends a heartfelt thank-you to Dr. Nika for his compassionate care.
All services will be private.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Belvidere V.F.W., 1310 W Lincoln Ave, Belvidere, IL 61008.
