Edith ""?Shirley Baker, 81 Loving Mother and Grandmother Colored Photo Edith ""Shirley"" Baker, 81 of Rockford, died on Tuesday, February 6, 2007 at Alpine Fireside. Born June 28, 1925 in Tabor, IA the daughter of Clyde Ross and Edith (Omer) Penney. Received her Bachelors degree from Northern Illinois University in Education. Married her loving husband Delbert Baker in Audubon, IA on June 24, 1950. Shirley was a teacher in Byron and Leaf River before teaching in Pecatonica for 17 years, retiring in 1984. Survivors include her daughters; Ann (Doug) Hoagland of Rockford, Marie Baker of Rockford and Barbara (Andrew) Schneider of Tennessee; grandchildren, Amanda Hoagland, twins Michael and Jacob Schneider and Jessica Schneider; her faithful companion Sally the cat, her grand dog Chelsey. brother, John (Ella) Penney; sister-in-laws, Elsie and Norma Penny. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Delbert in 2003, 3 brothers Donald, Lee and Norman; sisters Louise Larson and LaVeral Penney. Funeral mass will be celebrated on Saturday, February 10 , 2007 at 11:00 at Holy Family Catholic Church with Rev. Andrew Hougan officiating. Visitation will be held on Friday, February 9, 2007 from 6-8 p.m. at Fitzgerald Funeral Home, Mulford Chapel 1860 S. Mulford Rd. Inurnment will be held at a later date. Memorials may be made in her name to American Diabetes Association or to American Heart Association.
