Ernest A. Lewandowski, 90, of Rockford, passed away September 5, 2018. Born May 13, 1928 in Ashton, NE; he was the son of Alexander and Mary (Rewolinski) Lewandowski. He married Clarice Kirby on January 30, 1954 in Grand Island, NE.
A U.S. Army Veteran of the Korean War, Ernie was a member of St. Bernadette Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus. He retired from Nicor after 28 years.
A devoted father and family man, he enjoyed fishing, sports and making rosaries.
Survivors include his wife of 64 years, Clarice Lewandowski; children, Marilyn (Claude) Horsman, Sharon (Rodney) Johnson, Pamela (Patrick) Barkdoll, James (Rachel) Lewandowski and Brenda (Jeff) Ramsby; 14 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren; sisters, Sister Agnes Lewandowski, Phyllis Spanel and Louise Dietz.
He was preceded in death by his parents; granddaughter, Anna Barkdoll; brothers, Hank, Dennis and Leonard Lewandowski; and his sister, Loretta Duester.
Funeral Mass will be celebrated 10:00 a.m. Monday, September 10, 2018 at
St. Bernadette Catholic Church, 2400 Bell Avenue, Rockford. Visitation 3 until 5 p.m. Sunday, September 9 at Fitzgerald Funeral Home & Crematory, 3910 N. Rockton Avenue, Riverside Chapel, Rockford. Visitation will continue 9 a.m. Monday, September 10, 2018 until time of service at the church. Entombment in Calvary Catholic Cemetery, Winnebago.
