Eugene T. Goral

August 14, 1936 — November 22, 2023

Eugene T. Goral (Gene), 87, of Huntley, IL, peacefully passed away on Wednesday, November 22nd with his wife of 66 years, Betty, by his side. Along with his wife, he leaves his daughters Tami (Jim) Rich, Susan (Mark Craven) and son, David; and 5 adoring grandchildren : Alex (Alexandra), and Abby Jean Rich, Owen and Kelly Craven, and Grant Goral. He was recently overjoyed to become a great grandpa to Quinn James Rich. Gene also had several friends and extended family (sisters-in-law, nieces and nephews) that meant so much to him. He was preceded in death by his parents and six siblings.

Whether it was husband, dad, “Bopi” (his favorite role), friend, golf buddy or on the dance floor, he was a role model in each. He was loved and respected in everything he did and you always knew he was cheering you on whatever the endeavor. Kindness, laughter and humility were his hallmarks in life.

Gene was born in Rockford, IL to Chet and Mary Ann Goral; the 2nd youngest of 7 siblings. He spent his youth and young adult years in Dixon, IL. He attended Dixon High School where he played a variety of sports and met his future wife, Betty Leer. He went on to attend St. Ambrose College and graduated from Aurora University. He then embarked on a 38 year career with Commonwealth Edison which took him to different locales around northern Illinois. Upon retirement, he and Betty spent their winters in Florida and Gene began a new “favorite career” as a starter at Quail West Golf and Country Club in Naples. He was able to combine his love of golf and warm weather with sunsets on the beach with Betty.

Gene’s family was definitely his passion and he loved them fiercely. This was followed by his passion for playing golf, watching golf, and talking about golf. His golfing highlights included a trip to The Masters, golfing in Scotland, and 4 career holes in one! He remained an avid Cubs and Chicago Bears fan throughout his life and looked forward to the family “Cheeze Its” March Madness pool every year. He was a whiz at “Name That Tune” and appreciated all genres of music.

Gene was a man of great faith and we know he has arrived safely on the most beautiful fairway of all. Upon his request, there will be a private family service/Mass with a celebration of life at a later date. Gene (Bopi) was the ultimate Christmas elf putting together a multitude of Playmobil, Legos and Barbie houses until the wee hours of many a Christmas morning. If you wish, a toy donation to a local charity ( or charity of your choice) this Holiday Season would be a great way to honor him.
