Eugene W. "Gene" Wolski

Eugene W. "Gene" Wolski, 88, of Rockford, passed away on Tuesday, March 11, 2014. He was born in Chicago on August 4, 1925, the son of Michael and Frances (Mars) Twarog. After losing his father at a young age, Gene was later adopted by Joseph Wolski when his mother remarried. Gene was a proud U.S veteran serving his country in the Air Force. After his honorable discharge he went on to earn a bachelor's degree from Northern Illinois College of Optometry in 1949. He married Patricia McCune on October 28, 1950. Gene worked in the Chicago area where he shared an office building with his stepfather until relocating to Iowa in 1973. Together he and Pat made Iowa their home until moving to Rockford in 1999. Gene was a wonderful family man who always put the needs of others first. He enjoyed doing jig saw and crossword puzzles. He was a member of American Legion Post 1207, St. Rita Catholic Church and a 3rd degree member of Knights of Columbus St. Rita Council 7624 and 4th degree member of Assembly 190.
Gene is survived by his loving wife of 63 years, Pat; sons, David (Jean) Wolski and Mark (Cary) Wolski; daughters, Nancy (Chuck) Graetz and Lisa Wolski; grandchildren, Megan (Brent) Hendricks, Melissa (Matt) McClure, Heather and Justin Graetz, Gabe and Ann Wolski and Tamsyn and Griffin Hudack; great-grandchildren, Beth and Lucia Hendricks; numerous nephews and nieces. Predeceased by his parents; brothers, Michael and Ronald; sister, Joan (Earl) McLean; sister-in-law, Beverly Wolski.
Memorial Mass at 11:00 A.M. on Monday, March 17, 2014 in St. Rita Catholic Church, 6284 Valley Knoll Drive. Visitation from 10:00 A.M. until the time of Mass.
